BIBLE READING: MORNING: EZEKIEL 7,8,9. EVENING: HEBREWS 10:24-39
TOPIC: SET YOUR AFFECTION CORRECTLY
TEXT: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:2-3
Many Christians especially those who desire to live above this world often ask the question: “How much is really enough?” or what is the boundary between worldliness and spirituality?” The Psalmist prayed to God to give him enough so that he would not become a beggar or be destitute and bring shame to God. He also prayed that he should not be given so much in excess that he would not be carried away with such blessings and forget God. (Proverbs 30:7-9).
As soon as our appetite for ephemeral things begins to grow to levels were we accommodate little compromises, we have gone overboard. When your position in the secular world and your possessions begin to dictate how you want to be addressed not only in the secular world but even in church, you are already getting into trouble. You are beginning to lose the virtues of morality and humility. There are many Christians whose contributions to the church purse determine the tone of their ‘voice’ over the church affairs. Of course, there are also many Christians who are humble and want to remain anonymous even though they are contributing so much for the things of the kingdom.
When men’s praise and approval becomes more important to you than God’s appraisal and approval, you are already out of track. With the help of the Holy Spirit this day, set your affection correctly.
My Father, My Father, as I begin to pray, I set my affection correctly on things above. Help me Lord…
